This Day In Hockey History-Aug 7, 1975-Orr Worth $10-Million Contract, Agent Says

TORONTO (CP) — may have to put up $10 million if they hope to keep superstar defenceman from jumping to the World Hockey Association, says Orr's lawyer Alan Eagleson.
Eagleson, executive-director of the National Hockey League Players' Association, said he doesn't care whether the NHL Bruins pay Orr $5 million each year for a two- year contract, S2 million each year for a five-year contract, or $250,000 a year for the next 40 years.

“That's the type of structure Bobby would have to look at,'' Eagleson said. “I want to make sure Bobby is set for life when he signs his next contract. It could be with the Bruins, or it could be with any other club.”

Eagleson also said that Mike Murphy had signed his contract with Los Angeles Kings of the ÑHL and that Tim Ecclestone has reached agreement with Atlanta Flames.

“You can also safely say Toronto Maple Leafs are close to signing centre Pat Boutette,” Eagleson said.
Boutettc, a native of Windsor. Ont., who played college hockey at the University of Minnesota, played last year in Oklahoma City for the Leafs' Central Hockey League team.
