Robbie Ftorek of Cincinnati edged Quebec's Real Cloutier by three votes in the annual balloting of players for Most Valuable Player in the World Hockey Association.
Announcement of the vote Tuesday also included Wayne Gretzy's one-sided victory as Rookie of the Year. The Edmonton star out-polled Mike Gartner of Cincinnati, 37-16.
Mark Howe and Rick Ley of New England joined Ftorek, Cloutier, goalie Dave Dryden, and defenseman Rob Ramage of Birmingham on the first All-Star team.
But, Dave Dryden was the WHA MVP in 1978-79, wasn’t he?
