The Kings acquired center Jeff Carter from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for defenceman Jack Johnson and a first-round draft pick (#27 in 2013 Marko Dano) in the NHL entry draft. Carter had 15 goals and 10 assists in 39 games and was in the first year of an 11- year, $58-million contract.
