This Day In Hockey History-June 23, 2002-Islanders try to trade DiPietro for Samsonov

Rick DiPietro Sergei Samsonov Boston Bruins New York Islanders

The New York Islanders have talked to the Boston Bruins about moving their former No. 1 pick Rick DiPietro.

They’re trying to trade for Sergei Samsonov, presumably to play the Russian with Alexei Yashin.

DiPietro played goal at Boston University and would have a large following there.

There’s also talk of the Bruins trading for Islanders backup Garth Snow if they can’t sign free agent Byron Dafoe.
